Urban Entrance Blocks

Overview of the different blocks with Sollentuna municipality’s block in the middle

In the central parts of Sollentuna, a stone’s throw from the station and next to one of the most important approach roads; the area of the former fair is transformed into five city blocks. The municipality and Skanska have, after an exchange of land, created the preconditions for forming an urban environment with a new square. Skanska has a land allocation agreement for four of the blocks, while the fifth block, after the land exchange, belongs to the municipality. To make sure that the architectural design is of a high standard, the municipality decided to do an allocation competition for the block, where design was an important part of the competition.

Tovatt Architects & Planners first commission was to analyze the planning proposal from the municipality and Skanska. Thereafter, two additional commissions followed. The first one was to gather and coordinate illustrative material with the architects of the different blocks; volume model, illustrative plan and silhouette – so that the municipality could present the area as a whole. The blocks have different functions; including housing, retail spaces, offices and other functions. Secondly, together with Einar Mattson, Tovatt Architects & Planners made a proposal in the land allocation competition, after the public consultation of the zoning plan.
