Tovatt Architects & Planners has proposed a relatively dense and urban development for the central district within the plan, a structure built up of large-scale civic gestures coupled with small and spontaneous spatial surprises. Two large parks and an ecology park shape focal points of the plan. These connect and link smaller squares and public open spaces into a meandering network, providing a safe and clear way for public movement.
The three main defined parks, the connecting parklands and the Yuntolovo Canal blend together with Yuntolovo Nature reserve shaping a green whole. In the western end of the Yuntolovo Canal, Tovatt Architects & Planners propose a regional public transport hub together with a spectacular European Centre for Environmental Research catering for University use, the business sector, as well as for the public to take part in shaping the future. The masterplan creates a strong identity for Yuntolovo and a statement for St Petersburg as a sustainable world-city of the future.
