Areas of Sweden outside the main conurbations have an increasing problem with depopulation. Älvkarleby municipality commissioned Tovatt Architects and planners to make a feasibility proposal that could change this trend for Älvkarleby. The area is fortunate that a new commuter train station is to open in 2006. The proposal uses the natural landscape resource as well as the close link to a major road link to create an attractive residential area with a long-term base form a more attractive region centre.
