A Swedish initiative in 1994 was to lead to a solidarity project for Bosnia, a country devastated by war. The projects name ‘Ship to Bosnia’ arranged for an architectural competition to design a community building. Bengt Edman won the competition. However before the design could be developed Bengt died. With a new economic starting point Ralph Erskine and office was asked to redesign the proposal.
The work was carried out for the project on voluntary basis and the Solidarity house opened in September 2002 including an Internet café, a meeting hall, offices, kinder garden, dentist, cottage hospital, and music room. |
