A horse shoe frame of buildings surrounds the "southern park" that functions as an ecological park and a village green. The main route "The spine" that runs through the built part of the development provides a link of predominantly pedestrian character which creates a feeling of community in the area. As part of this route and between the two parks lies the large Oval square. An important aspect of the Greenwich Millennium Village is the mixture of use and social status of the occupants.

The principle of the Village is to provide a range of accommodation for all ages as well as a range of unit size, single houses mixed with apartment blocks. A mixture of small work places and shops within the area is also proposed to create a truly living environment. The areas parking is solved through the provision of parking decks beneath the main courtyards. This reduces the cars negative imposition on public streets and spaces. Erskine Tovatt Arkitektkontor have the overall responsibility for the urban planning and infrastructure of the area. The design to scheme design for phase 1 has been carried out
