Tovatt Architects and Planners together with Klas Tham have in collaboration with URBED worked with the historic centre of Brentford, how the High Street and the canal area could be developed. The work has been structured around three themes. First there are analyses of the area as whole including internal and external connections together with strategies and proposals on areas to develop. Second, that through public workshops with the local community presents four proposals on how to develop the Brentford Lock West site. The third is to develop the four options to preferred option on a masterplan for the Brentford Lock West site.
The proposed masterplan for the Brentford Lock West site takes care of the historical industrial character and the public qualities of the canal and shapes a vibrant urban environment. The housing within the site is with focus on larger types of units with access to a rich variation of outdoor spaces, from private gardens and terraces to semi-private courtyards and public spaces to stay in.
